What is IRIS FBR?

IRIS is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software launched by Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) covering all business processes of Income Tax and Sales Tax. As opposed to popular belief, Iris is a word not an abbreviation. It is a name of a flower which symbolizes wisdom. The recommended web browser for accessing Iris FBR is Google Chrome. It can also be accessed by latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Netscape and Opera. FBR Iris can be accessed at https://iris.fbr.gov.pk/infosys/public/txplogin.xhtml. Iris provides a paperless solution for tax payers to file their returns on income.

Getting Started with IRIS FBR / FBR IRIS

Before you start using Iris FBR, it is recommended to visit FAQS and User Guides available at Iris website. You may also contact FBR at helpline@fbr.gov.pk or call them at 051-111-772-772 on working days from 0800 hrs to 2400 hrs. You should know following things before using Iris.

What is my User ID?

Your registration number is your user id. For a Pakistani individual, it is his / her 13 digits CNIC or NICOP. For a Non-Pakistan individual, it is his / her 7 digits NTN. For Companies / AOPs, it is 7 digit NTN.

How do I get a Password and PIN?

The first part of registering to Iris FBR is to get a Password and PIN. Follow these steps for enrolling yourself to Iris.

  • Access Iris login page at https://iris.fbr.gov.pk/infosys/public/txplogin.xhtml
  • Click “E-Enrollment for Registered Person” hyperlink. It will open ‘E-Enrollment’ dialogue.
  • Fill all required fields and click ‘Submit’ button
  • Check your email for your email verification code
  • Enter your verification code (received in email) in relevant field
  • Check your mobile phone inbox for your mobile verification code
  • Enter your verification code (received in mobile) in relevant field
  • Click ‘Submit’ button

After finishing above mentioned steps, you will receive your password and PIN in your email and on mobile. You can not create a new task in Iris FBR unless you complete the 2nd part of the registration process. In this part, you have to fill and submit the Form of Registration and attach required documents.

How to File Return of Income?

Follow these steps for filing return of income in FBR Iris.

  • Click on ‘Declaration’ in the top horizontal bar menu.
  • Select ‘114(1) (Return of Income filed voluntarily for complete year)’ in vertical drop down menu.
  • Click on ‘Period’ button.
  • Enter relevant tax year / tax period.
  • Click on ‘Search’.
  • Click on ‘select’ against the dates that appear in the box.
  • Click on relevant options in vertical menu of the left side.
  • Enter required data and save.

The document is saved as a draft first. In case you have created a wrong task, you can delete the draft before sumitting it. You can find the task in folder named Draft.

How to Attach a Document with a Task?

Follow these steps for attaching a document with your task in Iris FBR.

  • Click on ‘Attachment’ tab.
  • Click on ‘+’ icon.
  • Click on magnifying glass icon in ‘Document’ field.
  • Click on magnifying glass icon in ‘Search’ dialog.
  • Find relevant document from the list and click on ‘Select’ hyperlink.
  • Click on ‘Choose File’.
  • Attach the file and click ‘OK’ button.

How to Attach a CPR with a Task in Iris FBR?

Follow these steps for attaching a CPR with a task in FBR Iris.

  • Click on ‘Payment’ tab.
  • Click on ‘+’ icon.
  • Click on magnifying glass icon in ‘Search’ field.
  • Click on magnifying glass icon in ‘Search’ dialog.
  • Find relevant CPR from the list and click ‘Select’ hyperlink.
  • Click ‘OK’ button.

How to Deal with Message ‘Transaction not allowed as another transaction has already been started / completed’?

Above mentioned messaged suggests that 114 (Notice to file Return of Income for complete year) has already been issued. If you get this message then you cannot file 114(1) (Return of Income filed voluntarily for complete year). Follow these steps if you receive this message in Iris FBR.

  • Click on ‘Inbox’.
  • Click on ‘Declaration’.
  • Select 114(3) (Notice to file Return of Income for incomplete year).
  • Click ‘Reply) button.
  • Click on ‘Period’ button.
  • Enter relevant tax year / tax period.
  • Click on ‘Search’.
  • Click on ‘select’ against the dates that appear in the box.
  • Click on relevant options in vertical menu of the left side.
  • Enter required data.

How to Deal with Message ‘Statement of Assets / Liabilities must be filed before submission’ in FBR Iris?

Section 116 requires compulsory filing of Wealth Statement by all tax filers. It means that Wealth Statement has to be filled by Return Filer before submitting his / her Return of Income in FBR Iris.

How to file Wealth Statement?

Follow these steps for filing Wealth Statement on Iris FBR.

  • Click on ‘Declaration’ in the top horizontal bar menu.
  • Select ‘116(2) (Statement of Assets / Liabilities filed voluntarily)’ in vertical drop down menu.
  • Click on ‘Period’ button.
  • Enter relevant tax year / tax period.
  • Click on ‘Search’.
  • Click on ‘select’ against the dates that appear in the box.
  • Click on ‘Personal Assets / Liabilities / Receipts / Expenses’
  • Click on ‘Personal Assets / Liabilities’ tab.
  • Enter required data and save.

How to Deal with Message ‘Unreconciled Amount against Code 703000 must be zero before submission’ in Iris FBR?

The above mention appears if difference (Code 703003) between your current year wealth (Code 703001) and previous year wealth (Code 703002) is not equal to the difference between inflows (Receipts) and outflows (Expenses).  In simple words, if your present year’s wealth has increased from previous year’s wealth then your income must surpass your expenses by an equal amount. Similarly, if your present year’s wealth has decreased from previous year’s wealth then your expenses must surpass your income by an equal amount. Therefore you have to provide correct and accurate information regarding your expenses and income to make the reconciled amount (Code 703000) equal to zero.

How to Know if your Return of Income or Wealth Statement has been submitted successfully?

Following are the indications that your Return of Income and Wealth Statement has been submitted successfully in Iris FBR.

  • ‘Submit’ button is disabled.
  • Submission Date is present on the screen and printed copy.
  • Watermark ‘Draft Copy’ is not present on the printed copy.
  • Return of Income and Wealth Statement are not present in ‘Draft’ folder but has been shifted to ‘Outbox’ folder.

How to Apply for Refund in FBR Iris?

Follow these steps for filing an application for refund on Iris.

  • Click on ‘Refund’ in the top horizontal bar menu.
  • Select ‘170 (Application for refund of tax paid in excess)’ in vertical drop down menu.
  • Click on ‘Period’ button.
  • Enter relevant tax year / tax period.
  • Click on ‘Search’.
  • Click on ‘select’ against the dates that appear in the box.
  • Enter contents in the Text Box.
  • Click on ‘Submit’ button on the top horizontal bar menu.
  • Click on ‘Print’ button on the top horizontal bar menu to print the application.

Where to Declare Tax Deducted at Source on Salary by the Employer?

Tax deducted at source on salary can be declared under ‘Adjustable Tax Regime’ against any of following applicable codes in Iris FBR.

  • 64020001 – Salary of Federal Government Employees u/s 149.
  • 64020002 – Salary of Provincial Government Employees u/s 149.
  • 64020003 – Salary of Corporate Sector Employees u/s 149.
  • 64020004 – Salary of Other Employees u/s 149.
