Koffee with Karan – Talk Show

Introduction :

Koffee with Karan is an Indian talk show hosted by film director and producer Karan Johar. The show is aired on Star World Indian domestically and on STAR Plus Internationally. Karan Johar invites celebrities from Indian film industry for holding talks with him. Renowned Bollywood celebrities such as Shahrukh Khan, Farah Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Lara Datta, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma have made multiple appearances on the show. Koffee with Karan premiered on November 20, 2004. The show has completed 5 seasons. A total of 113 episodes of the show have been aired. Each episode has a running time of 60 minutes.

There are three regular segments in the show

1- Rapid Fire

In this segment, Karan asks question to his guest in quick succession. The guest does not have ample time to think and has to answer quickly. Sometimes, Karan provides two options and asks the guest to choose one. The winner is gifted Karan’s Koffee Hamper. The hamper is usually full of edible items and electronic gadgets.

2- Options

In this segment of Koffee with Karan, he allows his guest to listen to other people’s opinions. The opinions may come from showbiz industry people or general public.

3- Koffee Quiz

In this segment of Koffee with Karan, he asks questions related to general knowledge or Bollywood. The guest who presses the buzzer first gets to answer. The question is passed on to other guest if the answer is incorrect. The winner gets a prize.

Controversies

Koffee with Karan has sparked some controversies. Karan Johar jokingly said to Kangana Ranaut on his show that he never expected her to give a National Award winning performance. The statement made Kangana a little angry and Karan had to apologize to her later on. Kangana stated that Karan would be her antagonist in her autobiography. Their comments about each other went viral on social media.

In another episode of Koffee with Karan, he invited Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor together. Both actresses had dated Ranbir Kapoor in past. Karan made the actresses speak about Ranbir. Both actresses commented negatively about Ranbir. Their comments generated a strong media buzz. Ranbir’s parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh took the comments very personally. Karan came under heavy fire as a result.

Koffee with Karan has received critical and commercial acclaim. It is one of the most successful talk shows in Indian showbiz history.
